The Iliesa Tanivula-coached Telecom Fijiana 7s team will need to step up in the third leg of the World Rugby Women Sevens Series in Atlanta, USA next month.

This was after the team finished eighth in the second leg in Sao Paulo, Brazil over the weekend.

Despite beating China 33-7, the team lost to Brazil, 26-14 Australia 38-7 in pool play.

“It was disappointing for the team as we aimed to better our 6th placed ranking in Dubai,” Tanivula said.

But he applauded the team for their win over South Africa (24-22) in the Bowl semifinal and Spain (17-12) in the final.

“As a coach we need to look at the programme once again and see where we need to fix,”he said.

“We learned a lot as a team and the potential is there but we need to have the right mindset so that we can achieve better results.”

“We need to analyse and re-assess our performance before the next leg in USA.”

Fiji is at the eighth spot with 14 points behind NZ (40), Aus (36), Canada (32), France 928), England (24), USA (18), and Russia (14).

The team will camp on Monday and will undergo medical examination.

The USA Women Sevens kicks off at Kennesaw State University on March 14-15.
