BSP Trial Resumes Today

The trial of six men allegedly involved in the Bank South Pacific daylight robbery took a day’s break yesterday and would resume today.

The matter was adjourned to Friday because lawyers had other matters pending in other courts.

Six men, Josaia Usumaki, Kunal Prasad, Solomoni Qurai, Tevita Sugu, Epeli Qaraniqio and Deshwar Dutt are charged in relation to the Bank South Pacific Samabula branch robbery in September 19, 2012.

Usumaki who was previously charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property is now being charged with aggravated robbery which was the earlier charge of Sugu.

Sugu’s charge has been now reduced to dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Usumaki and Prasad are charged with aggravated robbery of $70,000 Fijian dollars, and other foreign currencies.

It is alleged that Qurai dishonestly received stolen property namely cash worth FJD$3350, US$100 and Australian (AUD) $100 knowing that the cash is stolen property.

Sugu is now charged with dishonestly received stolen property namely cash worth $1041, knowing it was stolen property

For Count Four it is alleged that Qaraniqio dishonestly received stolen property namely cash FJD$ 2000 US$45 and AUD$120 while Deshwar Dutt is alleged to have dishonestly received stolen property namely cash worth FJD$6400 and AUD$510 knowing the money was stolen.

The amended charges were once again read on court on Tuesday and all six pleaded not guilty as before.
