The 2nd Annual Fiji Performing Right Association (FPRA) Awards Night is set forMay 16 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

This was confirmed by FPRA director Seru Serevi who indicated that this year’s event would be bigger and better.
“This was after the success of last year’s event.

“It will be a Black Tie event and we are working around the clock to put things together and also at the same time hopeful that our Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be available to grace the occasion.”

New category

There will be 13 Premier Awards at stake.
“This is one more from last year.”
He pointed out the new category is the Best Gospel Award and the reason FPRA directors have endorsed is because of the demand the huge market it serves.
“So we are inviting Gospel artists who released their albums last year to send in their application for the award.”

Open to all

Mr Serevi also clarified that the 13 Premier Awards are open to all artists regardless of the ethnicity or religion.
“This has been misunderstood for a long time. If you’re an Indo Fijian and have released your Hindi album you are welcome to enter. The premier awards are not for iTaukei artists only but for all Fijians. Also, we’ve got a few Indo Fiji brothers who have released their Gospel albums and they are eligible to go for the Best Gospel Award.”

Criteria

He confirmed that only artists who have released their albums last year are eligible for this year’s awards.
“We usually monitor them on a yearly basis. That’s from January 1 to December 31. So if an artist or group that releases their album in 2014 they are most welcome to apply for the awards.”

The closing date for those wishing to apply is March 2.
He added that interested artists and groups could get their forms by contacting FPRA office on 3312494 or otherwise call him on 9026256.
