In their bid to improve relations with the Government, the Fijian Teachers Association has invited the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, to its upcoming Annual Delegates Conference.

The conference will be held on April 28 with close to 300 delegates and more than 2000 members expected to attend.

FTA president Gauna Halofaki said they were awaiting a response to their invitation from the Permanent Secretary in PM’s Office.

“This is a newly-elected government and we cannot be the way we were nine years ago,” Mr Halofaki said.

“We want him to be our chief guest and to discuss with him issues about teachers’ salary and other issues regarding the welfare of our members.”

Meanwhile, the association was still finalising its roll of members in order to hold its election of office bearers during the meeting.

Mr Halofaki said the association was still trying to put its affairs in order following the termination of its former general secretary Maika Namudu last month.
