Another Vocational Centre Soon

The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation is strengthening its relationship with faith-based organisations to curb street begging.

This time the Ministry is partnering with the Fiji Muslim League to open a Women’s Vocational Centre in Makoi.

“At the moment out plan is to partner up with the faith based organisations,” Line Minister Rosy Akbar said.

“Last year the Government allocated a $100,000 funding to set up a new rehabilitation centre that we opened last week in Colo-i-Suva. We have partnered up with the Fiji Muslim League and plans to open a new women’s vocational centre,” Ms Akbar said.

She said the ministry plans to partner with more agencies willing to assist beggars.

Just like the Good Samaritan Beggars Rehab Inn which opened recently in Colo-i-Suva, Ms Akbar says the Makoi centre would be first of its kind.

“The beauty about this centre is that, it will give opportunity for any woman from any background to be accommodated and skilled in wide range of programmes.”

Ms Akbar said the Ministry would continue to expand opportunities for women into sustainable livelihood projects.
