The Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) Agreement will engage individuals and groups such as youth, women and persons with disabilities.

The details of the agreement were discussed by the Senior officials committee of the PIDF with its consultant Dr Michael O’Keefe of La Trobe University in Australia.

Dr O’Keefe was commissioned to prepare the draft PIDF agreement.

He said he was looking forward to hearing the opinions of various sectors.

“We are going to target youth, work with different groups such as gender, disability, civil society, private sector organisations and Government partners who founded the PIDF,” he said.

Dr O’Keefe said this would see many issues discussed on a participatory and consultative level.

Forum secretary-general Feleti Teo said one of the key outcomes of last year’s PIDF annual summit in Nadi was the setting up of a PIDF Agreement.

This, he said, would form the structure of PIDF and its work for the region.

The next PIDF leaders’ summit is scheduled for August in Fiji.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the appointment of a successor for Mr Teo, the current secretary-general of the PIDF who is leaving, to head another regional organisation.

PIDF will be appointing an interim secretary-general to replace Mr Teo.

The members of the Senior Officials Committee have been invited to provide names to the Secretariat.
