Sixteen-year-old, Koleta Ranawai was humbled and grateful when officially inducted head girl of Tailevu North College yesterday.

Five years ago, while still in Year Seven, she was given the opportunity to sit for the Fiji Intermediate Examination at Delainakaikai Primary School.

She passed with flying colours.

Today she and headboy, Sakaraia Naidiri, 17, have been given the task to head their student body. Together with over 20 prefects they will lead a school roll of over 700 students.

The induction at the school premises in Tailevu was witnessed by proud family and friends.

Koleta said: “I thank the faculty for placing their faith in me. I realise now that it’s not the age that matters when it comes to leadership.

“It’s about what and how you can make positive changes so that this reflects in your community and society.

“This year I plan to bring about such changes so that students’ attitudes and mindsets are changed for the better.

“I thank God for this journey and my family for being there for me.”

Sakaraia echoed similar sentiments.

“It is a privilege to be heading the student body. We thank our teachers for their support and we look forward to a fruitful and successful 2015 school year,” he said.

“As headboy, I vow to take this task seriously as it will not only help me with the task ahead but develop my skill as a future leader.”

School principal Timoci Bure said the faculty attributed two traits shown by the heads and this was academically good and vocal.

Koleta is a Commerce student while Sakaraia is an Arts student.
