Suva Hockey Association began its off-season with a 5-a side league yesterday

Association’s president Litia Savu confirmed they would begin their season on May 2 at the National Hockey Centre.

And will continue with 5-a-side as a build up to the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

“They have a small turf in PNG so we need to prepare players well,” Savu said.

“We have most of our players in the high performance unit and they have been doing well.”

Savu said their aim this year was to continue with their development plans for players, umpires and officials. “We aim for more development for players, umpires and officials. “Currently we only have one international umpire Epeli Tukuca and we want more,” she added.

Tukuca holds an Oceania Hockey Federation (OHF) Level 3 certificate and have officiated regionally and internationally as well.

“We are also working with Fiji Hockey development officer Tai Smith for the junior players development programme throughout the season.

“We just want to see more players and officials to grow and further their knowledge about the sport.”
