A family of Tomanu Road in Nadera, Nasinu, lost their three-bedroom home in a fire at midday yesterday.

National Fire Authority chief executive officer John O’Connor said they responded immediately after receiving a call at 12.29pm but it was too late.

“The house was already fully engulfed in flames when we arrived,” he said.

Mr O’Connor said a man was in the house when the fire started but confirmed that no one was injured.

“But the family lost all their belongings in the fire.”

Neighbour Mere Dicivo said she was alerted by other women residing at the Nadera HART that smoke was coming out from the roof of the house.

“We saw that flames were already coming out of the windows and the door,” Mrs Dicivo said.

“All of a sudden the house owner’s nephew, who had been in the house, came running out.

“We could see shock and fear on his face. I think he might have been sleeping when the heat woke him up.”

Mr O’Connor said the cause of the fire was yet to be determined and the cost of damage is also not known yet.
