It was an emotional day for forty-five-year- old Emily Elaise as she walked towards her youngest son last Friday.

Ms Elaise looked back at the struggles her son, Christian Elaise, had gone through and could not hold back her tears.

Year Nine student Christian was proudly appointed the school headboy of Nadi Airport School.

“I was so shocked when I learned that my son was chosen to be their headboy; I’m so proud of him and we have been truly blessed,” she said.

Ms Elaise, who has been diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, said it was not an easy journey for the two of them.

“When we returned to Fiji, Christian was in Year Three; he had to adjust to the Fijian atmosphere which took time.

“He was with Namaka Public School since I worked there; after I was diagnosed with cancer I decided to put him in Nadi Airport School. This is because if something happens to me, he would be close to his relatives here,” she said.

Meanwhile Christian, 13, aims to be a brother to the students.

“I just hope to be more of a brother to the students and assist them in any way possible,” he said.

“It will be a busy year for me but with the help of God and good time management I should be able to complete a successful year.”

Christian dedicated his achievement to his mother.

Thirty-seven prefects were inducted at the school last Friday.
