The Vodafone Fiji 7s team play either Australia, France or Scotland in the Cup quarterfinals today.

This will be decided after the Fijians play in their final pool match against New Zealand at 9.0am today.

The Ben Ryan-coached side booked their spot after thumping Samoa 36-0 and beating Wales 28-24 in pool play yesterday.

Ryan reminded the players to be ruthless and play smart rugby in their first game against Samoa.

“You got to be ruthless, make wise decisions and play smart,” Ryan said.

New Zealand walloped Wales 40-7  and defeated Samoa 15-5 in their second pool match and has also booked their spot in the quarterfinal.

Ryan is anticipating a tough match against New Zealand.

“New Zealand will be tough since they are in top form after winning the Wellington 7s,” Ryan said.

According to World Rugby report the match of the day was the Fiji-Wales match, with the latter storming back from 0-28 down to come to within four of a sensational comeback but denied at the death. Fiji, New Zealand alongside South Africa and USA qualified to the cup quarters after being unbeaten after two games.

Fiji vs Samoa

Fiji’s speedster Samisoni Viriviri scored three tries in the 36-0 win over Samoa.

Viriviri scored all tries after good offloads and Semi Kunatani was spot on during kickoffs. Fiji led 19-0 at halftime.

Emosi Mulevoro, Vatemo Ravouvou and Kunatani scored in the second half.

Fiji vs Wales

Fiji scored their first try in 15 seconds after Kunatani won the kickoff for Viliame Mata to score.

Savenaca Rawaca and Osea Kolinisau (2) scored before Wales’ Samuel Cross crossed for the first try. Haltime: Fiji 28-7 Wales.

Kunatani was rested in the second spell which saw Wales taking control of the game and almost scoring the upset of day one.
