Malolo Resort Fiji, back in business after a big refurbishment, has been nominated as a finalist again for the AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards under the Accommodation Quality category.

The resort was closed for most part of 2013 after it sustained damage from Cyclone Evan.

Resort manager, Marian Khan, said: “We were closed for most of 2013, so could not nominate for that years awards.

“Now after a full year of operation post the Cyclone refurbishments, we are excited to be showcasing the amazing work that has been done to the resort and the efforts of our hard-working team.

“We are always honoured to be nominated for any award and particularly our local awards.”

The resort had previously been nominated for the AON awards in 2005, 2010 and 2012 all under the Accommodation Quality category.

The resort believes that those nominations is a booster and encourages the resort to strive for greater service.

“This award always gives our staff a huge morale boost and is recognition of how hard they work to make our guests happy,” Ms Khan said.

“It is also one of the ways to demonstrate to our guests that we are consistently delivering a quality service and experience.”

Local awards as such have always worked in supporting the remarkable work done by the industry.

Sun INTERVIEW – Marian Khan
How would you describe our tourism industry?
For a small country, the variety of experiences is extraordinary and ensuring the “destination” is foremost in all our marketing efforts is critical to the success of the industry, in addition to our own individual marketing efforts. It’s a vibrant and passionate industry with people doing extraordinary things and providing incredible levels of service. How is Malolo Resort Fiji performing currently?
Malolo has started the year very well – even given it’s the “low season” and the forward bookings for the remainder of the year are showing wonderful encouragement and increased consumer confidence.
We have essentially returned to pre- Cyclone Evan levels of interest and forward bookings and we predict a very successful year for the resort.

Investment plans and or upgrade plans for the resort?
Our major upgrade was completed in 2013 after Cyclone Evan with $5.5million refurbishment.
We also “refresh” the resort every year at this time to ensure the quality of our facilities is always of the highest standard.
