The Sanatan community in Labasa held prayer ceremonies at every Hindu Temple around town.

The Pooja, which is called Maha Shiv Ratri, started at 5am yesterday and pulled more than 200 devotees to every temple in Labasa.

Speaking to Fiji Sun yesterday, temple pundit Dor Sami said devotees were coming in to offer their pooja to Lord Shiv.

“These devotees come in to offer their pooja to Lord Shiv and offer 108 bell patra,” Pundit Sami said.

The priest said the 108 bell patra represents the shiv mantra (chanting) which is the number of months the devotees prayed.

“Devotees come to the temple with fruits and milk to offer to Lord Shiv for wealth and health,” he said.

Ram Sewak and Sushila Devi of Korotari in Labasa travelled all the way to Naag Mandir Temple at Nagigi to offer their prayers to Lord Shiv.

“We here to please Lord Shiv so that all our wishes come true,” Ram Sewak said.

Meanwhile, other temples in and around Fiji also marked Maha Shiv Ratri.
