Raiwai Raiders aims to win the Vodafone Nines tournament at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this Saturday.

The rugby league club secretary Jo Nasilasila said the team were confident of victory.

“We are confident to win this tournament,” Nasilasila said.

“On the first leg of the Vodafone Nines tournament in Lawaqa we were able to surprise many big teams and we are hoping to do the same in this tournament.

He said they have been getting a lot of positive response from the community as these players are able to engage themselves into the sport and not on criminal activities.

“Most of the players were criminals before but now they have dedicated themselves to the sport.

“As a result we have seen the crime rate in the Raiwai area have improved now compared to before, these youths are unemployed but we are thankful that they have engaged themselves to the sport,” he added,

Nasilasila said they are working on some of their weaknesses from the first leg in Lawaqa. “The main area I think we need to improve on is our defending skills this is something the team lacks.

“We are coming full force in this tournament and with all our players available we will come up with a positive result in the tournament.”
