A little girl whose leg was amputated after allegedly being hit by a suspended driver is pleading with her parents: I want to go to school.

Maraya Grace, of Kashmir, Lautoka, had only just started Year One at Lautoka Methodist School, when struck by the vehicle.

“Not a day that goes by where she never stops telling us to take her back to school; even during the day we brought her to the hospital she refused to take her uniform off,” Grace’s father Mosese Duilomaloma said.

“It is still hard to believe what has happened to my daughter, my wife was in a state of shock when she saw her.”

Mr Duilomaloma said Grace could not stop crying telling them she wanted to go to school.

“She had this dream of being a doctor, even when she was in the hospital all she would ask for is her homework book.

“Right now half of her leg has been amputated and we are still letting it dry off since she had just finished from her surgery,” he said.

Seeking for assistance Mr Duilomaloma said they were in need of any kind of help to get Grace back to school.

“So far things are improving for her but we are still seeking for a wheelchair to help her out at home.

“She is a strong girl and with that has happened to her she has managed to handle it very well,” he said.

The driver of the vehicle that was involved has been remanded in custody at the Natabua Corrections Centre and will appear at the Lautoka Magistrate Court on Monday, February 23. The charges he faces include driving while suspended.
