FEO Officials To Address PNG Meeting

Fiji’s Supervisor of Elections and his deputy are in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to attend the 9th Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand Electoral Administrators (PIANZEA) Network meeting in Alotau today and tomorrow.

The meeting is hosted by the PNG Electoral Commission and the theme for this year’s meeting is ‘Election Preparedness’.

“This will be the first time for us as the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) to meet our colleagues from neighbouring countries and this will be the perfect opportunity to build good relations. Attending this important meeting will allow us to share our practices and also learn the electoral practices of other Pacific Island countries,” said Mohammed Saneem, Supervisor of Elections.

Mr Saneem will be the first speaker talking on “preparing for historic elections in Fiji.” He will also be speaking on the following topics relaying Fiji’s experiences and practices:

– Preparing for and deploying a Biometric Voter Registration System in Fiji

– Preparing for a transparent, accurate and timely results

– PIANZEA and its role in re-engaging Fiji

Michael Clancy, Deputy Supervisor of Elections, will also be speaking on:

– Engaging candidates and parties ahead of Elections

– Fiji’s Competency based training of electoral officials.
