Goundar Shipping Limited has announced that its vessel, the MV Lomaiviti Princess One is now undergoing a major refurbishment.

The company stated yesterday that the inter-island ferry will not be servicing our waters for a month to allow for maintenance works to be carried out.

The maintenance and refurbishment works will be undertaken overseas. This is due to the size of the vessel, which could only go up on the slipway overseas.

Company director and owner George Goundar could not be reached for comments as he was away in Koro but his office confirmed that the vessel has gone for checks on Monday.

While the company regrets any inconvenience caused as the result of this, however it has advised all their clients that its second vessel MV Lomaiviti II will now take over from her sister vessel.

The MV Lomaiviti Princess II will service Koro, Moala, Matuku, Moala, Vunisea and Kavala in Kadavu, Savusavu , Vanuabalavu and Cicia in the Lau Group.

The Lomaiviti Princess is 93.50 metres in length and 17.0 metres in width and has a capacity of 900 passengers and 80 vehicles. The vessel is able to carry foot passengers as well as cars, truck campers and commercial vehicles. On-board amenities for passengers includes: cafeteria lounge, gift shop, various seating lounges and sleeping cabins.
