An effective leader is a positive role model who leaves a legacy behind says Acting Permanent Secretary for Education Kelera Taloga.

“Effective leaders communicate with impact and lead a life of service,” she said.

Ms Taloga was speaking to newly-elected leaders during the Suva Sangam School’s prefect induction yesterday.

She said great things would be achieved in 2015 if prefects did the basic things right.

She also reminded the new prefects that their badges were not for decoration.

“It comes with a lot of responsibilities,” she said.

Headgirl Faizah Livia Tuitoga said, “I am honoured to be chosen as the school headgirl; it is a dream come.

The headboy, Ifereimi Matatolu said; “Today I am a leader just because of my mother, who is always there to support me and guide me when I am stuck on the way.

“I did not expect to be chosen; there are more much brighter students than me who have leadership qualities too,” he said.

The school picked 98 prefects out of the 560 students yesterday at Howell Road in Suva.
