Water Portal Development

Parts of the Central Division will soon receive adequate water supply.

This follows development plans by the office of the Commissioner Central for the construction of a water portal system at Baulevu in Naitasiri.

Commissioner Central Ratu Meleti Bainimarama said this was one of their major projects for the division. He also hoped the project would be funded by the Asian Development Bank.

“This water portal system should supply water to the whole of Rewa and Tailevu delta, the Suva-Nausori corridor and the whole of Northern Tailevu,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“We are very excited about the project; if everything goes well the project should start in January 2016.” He said all relevant stakeholders were working together in this major development project.

Meanwhile, Mr Bainimarama said his office was awaiting the development plans of all Government teams and its stakeholders before they could consolidate and map out the division’s plans for the next four years in terms of developments that would be carried out.

Cyclone season preparation

The Commissioner Central’s office has been working with the provincial administrators, district officers and Roko on how best they could inform and prepare the rural people for this cyclone season. Mr Bainimarama said this was important because disasters were beyond man’s control and at times they hit at night so people need to be reliably informed on what to do.
