Minister Rosy Akbar says her ministry is looking at means to tackle the cost of living pressures for low income earners.

Our food voucher programme has been one of these initiatives,” she said.

The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation was yesterday at the MHCC Foyer in Suva to draw the winners of the food voucher promotion.

The promotional programme was part of MH’s corporate social responsibility as the authorised vendor for the ministry’s Food Voucher Programme.

“The Fijian Government believes in a just and a fair society where the benefits of progress include everyone,” Ms Akbar said.

She also confirmed that the ministry was committed to make a difference in people’s lives.

This year Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation had allocated $22 million towards the Poverty Benefit Scheme.

Minister Rosy Akbar said, “The main purpose of doing this is to enable us to increase the value of food vouchers from $30 to $50 a month.”

Meanwhile 10 food voucher recipients walked away with items such as solar panels, brushcutters, agricultural household equipment and other prizes that would further assist these families in their livelihood.

The five major winners’ names would be announced later MHCC officials said.
