Ben Ryan needs Fijians who can deliver and deal with pressure for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Vodafone Fijian 7s coach said players needed to have the right attitude  and be committed to Fiji to win the gold medal.

Ryan made these comments during the 2014 Fiji Sports Awards in Suva last Friday.

“If you enter a village hall in an Olympic Games you will be amazed to see a lot professional athletes,” Ryan said.

“I need players who can deal with pressure. New Zealand will be bringing in the All Blacks, Springboks for South Africa but for us I’m pretty sure that I will give everybody a fair crack for the Olympics.

“I got a sneaky suspicion that the majority of the players will come from the boys playing right now in the island. You go to their villages, you see where they live, the sacrifices they have made, how much it matters and I think that give us advantage over other teams.”

“I come from a country that has full-time contracted players. I know most of the sport here won’t have that sort of money to compete against big nations.

“If we don’t have the money, we should not be making excuses.

“We will win gold medal in Rio if we  work hard and the fact that we got the nation’s support behind us.”

Ryan also stressed the importance of having the right attitude.

“You have to have that never-say-die attitude; you should have that never- give-up attitude, you have to have the no shortcuts attitude. We are slowly producing that with the national 7s squad.

“For me I want to get the best out of people. I get the most reward seeing players and people getting better.”
