Staff of the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA), Lautoka branch at Navutu, celebrated the festival of colours ‘Holi’ yesterday.

Team leader human resources West Zareena Bi said: “The Holi celebration was initiated by Human Resource Team West for all the West-based employees.

“This is so they could come together and enjoy this fun-filled occasion as a family. The iTaukei employees took centre stage in welcoming the employees and sharing information on the reason for celebrating Holi.

“This is our focus to create and promote a culture of multiracial harmony and respect at the workplace,” Ms Bi said.

There was also a Holi song sung by the in-house Mandali group – Bijlee Ramayan Kirtan Mandali.

“The ocassion was enjoyed by all and for some of the iTaukei employees, this was their first experience of the Holi song (faag),” she said.

Employees celebrated the occasion which ended with applying colours.

Customer service staff Alanieta Masitabua said that “Holi was a spring festival also known as the festival of colours or the festival of love.

“It is an ancient Hindu religious festival which has become popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia,” Ms Masitabua said.

Another employee, Makelesi Peters said: “A closer look and a little thought will reveal the significance of Holi in many more ways than what meets the eye.”
