FICAC Charges Ex-Govt Surveyor

A former senior Government surveyor has been released on bail on strict conditions and a bail bond of $5000 by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) had charged Shiri Narayan for a count of extortion by public officer. He appeared before the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon.

The court heard that Narayan on the September 26, 2006, at Nadi in the Western Division, whilst being employed in the Public Service as divisional surveyor Western of the Lands Department, accepted a payment of $10,000 , beyond his proper pay and emoluments for the performance of his duties as a divisional surveyor  Western for approving a transfer and change of  a lease.

Narayan has been released on bail with a bail bond of $5000 and to report to the Ba Police Station every Saturday between 8:30am to 1:30pm.

He was also asked to surrender his passport to the court. The matter has been adjourned to April 20 this year for mention.

The accused will be served with the second phase of disclosures and would take his plea.
