Missing Person No Link To Murder: Brown

The Fiji Police Force has responded that rumours of a missing person allegedly linked to a murder are false.

The Police was replying to a letter published in the Letter’s to the Editor column of the dailies that the case of the missing person in 2002 was allegedly linked to a murder case.

Police Chief of Investigations and Intelligence Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Henry Brown confirmed the two cases had no link at all.

He explained the case of the missing person was reported in 2002 remained open while the murder case in question was reported three years later in 2005 and had been tried in a court of law.

“Any inference that the two were connected is misleading and creates unnecessary suffering for the family of the victim who have already endured a lot in trying to locate their family member,” ACP Brown said.

He also clarified that the woman who was mistakenly thought to be one of the missing person from 2002 was not.

ACP Brown said the woman had denied claims by the family members of the missing person that she was their family member who went missing 13 years ago.

She voluntarily assisted Police in their investigations and the family was able to trace the fact that the woman they thought was their daughter was someone else.

“The Fiji Police Force is pleading with members of the public not to make assumptions regarding such issues as it can create unnecessary panic and adds on to a family’s suffering as they search for answers,” ACP Brown said.
