Riverbank Upgrade For Sigatoka Soon

Improvement is expected at the Sigatoka riverbank in the coming months.

Sigatoka Town Council chief executive officer Tulsi Ram confirmed they had applied for the lease from relevant authorities.

“We have applied for the lease and it has been surveyed and we have been updated as it is still in process,” said Mr Ram.

“There is great need to improve the riverbank so we expect to start soon once we have received the green light.”

Mr Ram said they have also submitted to the Ministry of Local Government to extend their business hours.

“We have consulted ratepayers on the shopping hours to be extended. We have a lot of people in the afternoon especially the hoteliers and the tourist; they come and spend some time in the town areas.”

He has gained a lot of support from the business houses and rate payers on the matter.

“If we work together, we can increase our financial status and it will be beneficial to all of us, the councils and ratepayers,” he said.

“I’ve just been here two month and support is tremendous. I’ve seen and met a lot of people. Individually, they come and call me and I’ve been called out for lunches with them and that given me a lot support.”

He said the resorts along the Coral Coast like the Shangri-La Fijian Resort and Spa and Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji have been supportive of the development.

“There is a huge support from them but it all depends on us going out and talking to them,” Mr Ram said.
