23 banking industry personnel were recognised the past Saturday for their contributions and achievements towards the industry.

This was during the Fiji Institute of Bankers 2014 Bankers Institute Awards presentation ceremony at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay Entertainment Centre.

Of the awards in the different categories, Westpac Fiji scooped three of the eight awards whilst all the other banks got one each.

18 lifetime achievement awards were given to those who have provided 25 years or more of continuous service to the banking industry with loyalty, commitment and dedication.

Fiji Institute of Bankers executive secretary Rasiklal Jogia said the competition is an annual event open to staff who are employed in Fiji’s banking industry and are members of FIB.

He said their eligibility is confirmed by their employers – licenced financial institutions affiliated to the Institute.

These are namely the six commercial trading banks, the Fiji Development Bank and the Reserve Bank of Fiji, who submit contestants’ applications for the various award categories.

Mr Jogia said each award, comprising of prizes in cash and kind, is sponsored by an affiliate, and named after it.

Mr Jogia said: “This recognition for excellence is to acknowledge the performance proficiency, knowledge and experience of contestants in eight distinct selected areas of banking services.

“To maintain transparency and uphold the integrity of the Awards, applicants were judged and winners chosen by an independent Panel of Judges comprising of prominent personalities outside the industry.”
