Four Women Best In Business To Be Awarded

Four outstanding women in business will be awarded with Businesswoman, Executive business woman, Manager and Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year Awards today.

The four will be chosenfromthe 16 finalists of the Women in Business (WIB) Awards.

The annual event will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

WIB President, Dr Nur Bano Ali, confirmed they are expecting a full house event to be attended by almost 400 people.

“All the tickets have been sold out and we have a long list of waiting,” she said.

“The theme of our awards this year is ‘Rewarding Women Revolutionising Business’.

“Indeed women in the business world have a revolutionary impact with their different leadership style; one that is more inclusive and facilitative,” she said.

“The world needs such an approach to business and Leadership in commerce.

“Women are low in numbers in the commerce of Fiji and we need to recognise them so as to make this a motivational feature and to increase their numbers.

“Such recognition will also provide women with greater confidence in a sector where they are still inhibited in their progress.”

The finalists

Dr Ali said the finalists in all of the four categories are a group of very talented and competent women who all deserve to win.

“Indeed all the applicants were of high caliber and all deserve recognition,” she said.

Dr Ali said one special feature this year is a very young woman who is only 16 years old who applied for the awards.

“This is the positive impact of our Awards as we give the young ones the confidence to venture out into commerce,” she said.

Overall, Dr Ali said the WIB are very pleased with the growing interest in Fiji in these awards.

“Our society will be better informed and educated about women in commerce and will therefore rally behind these wonderfully talented and smart women and support their businesses,” she said.

A special award

Dr Ali said this year, they also have a special award – the Employer of Choice for Women.

“This will be given to an employer who not only employs lots of women but is serious about them and gives them senior roles in their business,” she said.

“In addition to that, the employer has facilitated to cater for and look after the welfare of women employees, well defined policies for sexual harassment, maternity protection and other related facilities for women’s needs.”

Dr Ali confirmed they had 35 applications in this category.
