Make It Happen, Women Told

“Make It Happen” was the strong messages delivered to women and young girls during a two-day workshop.

The workshop was conducted by the Soroptimist International Club in partnership with the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre at the Raffles Gateway Hotel in Nadi.

SIC Nadi president Tasneem Ali said they needed to work with various stakeholders to make things more effective.

“Many times we see that some things are meant to be reported are being kept silent, even if you have witnessed a woman being exposed to violent activities. It is our duty as a community to help her by reporting,” Ms Ali said.

“We also have the Police that we trust to protect us and we need to work together to ensure that everybody is protected regardless of your gender.”

Concluding the week-long celebration on International Women’s Day, Ms Ali said they were happy with the turnout.

“The participants who came to support this auspicious event have been really great; gathering from all different backgrounds we are truly happy to see them and listen to their concerns,” she said.

“Hopefully the workshop has empowered them as individuals who they are capable of accomplishing anything.”

The women who officially launched the event with a walk from the Votualevu roundabout to the Namaka Police Station dedicated their fight to women who have fallen victims of violence.

“Last Saturday night we did our walk regarding the celebration of successful women and women who are also and still are victims of violence.

“Thanks to FWCC we were able to conduct a successful and meaningful walk. We hope to see more partnership with various stakeholders to stand against such actions to women,” Ms Ali said.

The workshop ended yesterday afternoon.
