MSAF Issues Warning

The Maritime Safety Authority has issued the following statement in as part of its precautionary measure response in light of Tropical Cyclone Pam:

– All Ship Masters, Ship Owners & Ship Agents for foreign & local ships, Pilots, Port Management Companies/Operators, Marinas and Yacht Clubs are advised of the approach of TC Pam.

– Heavy showers will reduce visibility and all vessels are advised to navigate with extreme caution. Wind strength of Category 2 (48 – 63 knots) is forecasted from the Nadi Weather Forecasting Centre, therefore all Masters of small crafts must refrain from proceeding to sea in these conditions.

– Small boat owners are advised to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure their vessels are safe.

– Ship owners of larger vessels must provide all necessary support to Masters of their vessels to ensure the vessel is kept safe during the passing of TC Pam.
