The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management will be co-ordinating a two-day roadshow at Ra High School beginning April 21.

This is in an effort to maximise public awareness of Government services in rural the areas.

The ministry’s acting permanent secretary, Setareki Tale, said the roadshow was an opportunity for Government and its private partners to increase their reach and improve service delivery to rural and remote communities.

“We’ve strategically chosen Ra High school in the Nakorotubu and Nalawa area because it is distant from the town centres of Rakiraki on one end and Korovou on the other,” Mr Tale said.

“We’re anticipating all Government ministries, departments, major statutory institutions, and main private partners to raise awareness on products and provide services during the roadshow.”

An area that will feature prominently at this roadshow will be Government services and resources often inaccessible in rural parts of the country.

“Among the many expected services, the people of Ra can expect births, deaths, and marriage registrations and issuance of certificates, joint TIN/FNPF card services, social welfare scheme registrations, commercial banking advice, agricultural guidance and tertiary institutions advice,” he said.

“This roadshow will be an opportunity for those in the Ra province, particularly those near the Nakorotobu and Nalawa area to access many if not most of Government‘s services at one location.”

“While the roadshow is a Government initiative, we appreciate commercial and private entities that will join us in decentralisation of services for all Fijians.”

The Ministry is planning to hold 2-3 Government roadshows this year.
