A 55-year-old man alleged to have caused the death of a four-year-old girl last week has been granted bail by the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.

Mitieli Rasaku of Wainibokasi has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death and a count of failing to comply with the requirements following a motor vehicle accident.

The accused was released on a bail bond of $500 under strict bail conditions.

He is to report to Wainibokasi Police Station every Monday and Thursday between 6am to 6pm and not to interfere with any prosecution witnesses.

He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court.

The matter has been adjourned for mention on April 20.

The victim, Joana Tailasa, was hit by a minivan allegedly driven by the accused last Saturday along Nakaile, Tailevu.

The victim, who would have turned five today, was laid to rest on Wednesday.
