Peter Hopgood, the general manager of Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji, has been re-elected as the chairperson of the Coral Coast Chapter of Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association.

An annual general meeting of the Chapter was held this week and the office bearers were elected.

Mr Hopgood said the past 12 months had been an extremely positive time for the Coral Coast, particularly with the opening of the new maternity ward at the Sigatoka District Hospital.

He said the hoteliers were proud to be able to assist government in the development of this facility. The Coral Coast FHTA donated over $600,000 to the project.

Looking forward, Mr Hopgood said the goal of the new committee would be to market Coral Coast as Fiji’s premier holiday destination.

He further said they will support their local community, in particular work with government on the development of a new medevac facility at the Sigatoka District Hospital

“We will bring all stakeholders on the Coral Coast together on a monthly basis to discuss issues that have an impact on our community,” he said.

“This includes Police, Town Council, Business Houses, Health Professionals, Regional Government and Resort Operators.”
