Fijiana In Bowl Competition

The Telecom Fijiana 7s team will play in the Bowl competition in the second round of the World Rugby Women Sevens Series in Atlanta, USA today.

This was after the Ana Maria Roqica-captained side lost all their three pool matches yesterday.

Australia dished out a 36-0 thumping in the first game before France edged the Iliesa Tanivula coached side 12-10.

In the final pool match, Spain turned the tables on the Fijians winning 19-14.

In comparison to their two previous rounds in Dubai and Sao Paulo, the Fijians’ performance seems to have taken a dip.

In the opening leg of the 2014-2015 World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai, Fiji started with a 21-12 win over Brazil in the pool rounds and made it to the Plate final but lost to England 19-12. The girls were a much improved outfit on the next leg in Sao Paulo, Brazil starting with a 33-7 win over China in the opening game of the competition.

Though they were subsequently relegated to the Bowl semi-finals they defeated South Africa 24-44 and defeated Spain 17-12 in the final to lift their first silverware of the season.

Fiji will now face China in the Bowl semifinal at 5.50am today while Spain and South Africa face off in the other semifinal.

Meanwhile, New Zealand, Australia and England remain in the lead after topping their respective pools.

The 2015 World Rugby Women Sevens Series in Atlanta ends today with the Cup quarterfinals starting at 4am culminating with the Cup final at 11am.
