Roy Krishna’s dazzling display in the A-League in Perth, Australia over the weekend for the Wellington Phoenix is a proud moment for Fijian football.

This was the sentiment echoed by Fiji Football Association’s national coaching director, Juan Carlos Buzzetti last night.

Buzzetti was incredibly proud of Krishna’s two goals that pushed the Phoenix to the top of the A-League table when he helped his team beat Perth Glory 2-1 at nib Stadium.

Buzzetti attributed the win to Krishna’s dedication and professionalism.

Krishna’s Wellington Phoenix will make a tour of the country in June in conjunction with the launch of the Fiji Airways Nadi-Wellington-Nadi flights.

“This is great news for him and for Fiji,”Buzzetti said.

“He is now showing the level of professionalism that he has and that he has adjusted well to the standard of the A-League. Last year he was new and still finding his way.

“This season, he is settled into the competition. He was patient, he’d done the hard work and he was given the opportunity and he’s proved himself. This is great for him and Fiji as well, but for him more than anything.

“He really deserves this. He has worked so hard, which is something I always saw in him from day one. He does what is required and he always listens to the advice his manager gives and to the advice I would give.”

Buzzetti said everyone was buzzing with excitement in anticipation of Krishna’s homecoming tour in June with the Phoenix.

“We’re all looking forward to when he comes with the Phoenix for the June tour,” Buzzetti said.

“Congratulations to him for his achievements and to the Phoenix for topping the table.”

The Siberia, Labasa man initially opened the scoring with his first goal after Josh Risdon’s attempted clearance rebounded off him and past Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic.

The equaliser came from Perth Glory’s Ruben Zadkovich, but Krishna shot Phoenix right back into the lead and the top of the table with his second goal in the 78th minute.

A standout season for Roy

After making only nine appearances for one goal last season, Krishna has become a vital cog in the Phoenix’s machine this campaign. His brace against the Glory sees his goals tally for the season reach nine. But it is not only the goals which have contributed to this being such a good campaign for the Fijian.

His electrifying pace down the flanks has caught out even the best of defenders and due to this, he is always there to present an option for the more central-attackers – Outside.90 report.
