The Argentina Pampas XV received a thunderous reception when they arrived at Gospel High School in Suva yesterday.

Speaking on behalf of the Pampas team, manager Diego Tyslak thanked the school for making them feel welcome.

“One of the things that we truly appreciate about playing this game is what we get to do outside the field,”Tyslak said.

“Meeting people and making new friends when we are so far away from home makes us feel like we’re right at home.

“So for that, we would like to thank you all for making us feel welcome and like we’re at home. We’re very glad to be here at your school and we’re very happy to be in your wonderful country.

“In our country, rugby is the second national sport. For us, rugby is about teamwork, sacrifice and loyalty. These are all qualities that we try to embody.”

Gospel High School vice-principal Priscilla Chandra acknowledged the Pampas for their visit.

“We’re honoured to have the World Rugby Pacific Challenge champions in our school,” Chandra said.

The Pampas were treated to a performance of the cibi by the Under-17 rugby team, the school’s Christian Fellowship students and a performance of the Argentinean national anthem.

The Pampas are scheduled to play Canada A at 3pm tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium in the third round of the 2015 World Rugby Pacific Challenge. Junior Japan will take on Tonga A at 1pm while the Telecom Fijian Warriors take on Samoa A in a must win match at 5pm.

The visit was part of World Rugby’s Rugby Legacy Programme running in conjunction with the Fiji Rugby Union’s ‘Get Into Rugby’ programme.

Meanwhile, Cathedral Secondary School is expected to host Canada A on Thursday while Suva Grammar School will host Samoa A on Friday.
