With one week to go to the 2015 Hong Kong 7s, expectations are beginning to build for the Vodafone Fijian 7s team to do well.

And encouraging words of wisdom for the squad comes from former national rep and 7s coach Tomasi Cama Snr.

Cama believed the national side was on the right track in their build-up to HSBC Sevens World Series leg in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

“The Fijian team have been doing quite well with their preparations and I do believe Ben Ryan is making all the right calls when it comes to the team and he knows what to do and where to go,”he said.

“From what I’ve seen in the past legs, I think it’s important to build and select players that can play in the forwards and backline.

“This eases up the pressure when injuries occur because all the members of the team have the ability to play both positions. This should serve as motivation for the current 19-20 man extended squad to keep in mind when they’re working towards a spot on the final team.”

On the impending tournament to be held next weekend, Cama believed it was important for players to understand the importance of Hong Kong.

“The only thing now is for them to be prepared physically and mentally. The atmosphere in Hong Kong is something completely different and this is always a special event for Fiji so the players need to understand that and they’ll be able to get through it.

“I’m heading to Malaysia for a rugby competition there but from there I will be heading to China in time for the Hong Kong 7s so I will be watching them and I wish them all the best for the tournament.”

Meanwhile, Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan is expected to name his final squad for the 2015 Hong Kong-Japan leg at 12pm today at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour.
