Four Kiwi couples, winners of a Tourism Fiji competition arrived at the Nadi International Airport yesterday.

Happy to be in Fiji, the eight along with disc jockeys from the New Zealand Hits Radio Station were hosted with a warm Fijian welcome.

They landed on Fijian soil with air tickets provided by Fiji Airways and were escorted by Fijian warriors and greeted by staff of Pacific Destinations with a ‘salusalu’ each.

The international visitors were later given a traditional iTaukei welcome by a group of locals, organised by Tourism Fiji.

Amberlee and Chris Olding, who are from the South Island of New Zealand entered the radio competition after buying a house.

Ms Olding said: “It was a competition for International Happiness Day, we just bought a house and that was our happy news that we had to share.

“Fiji is beautiful and we had such a warm welcome and we are looking forward to the days ahead where I can do some swimming.”

Mr Olding said: “Love the place, the last time we only stopped at the airport but today we have come into the country and we are looking forward.”

Rachelle and Phillip Wright of South Auckland had their happy news win this trip to the happy island, Fiji.

Mrs Wright said: “It was to give a happy news and my news was the boxing class that I have been taking and I have been losing weight through boxing class.

“I was screaming and shouting when I heard about the win as I was in disbelief and we are really excited to come here.

“This is our first trip away without our little daughter so we really miss her but we are excited to travel.”

The group was shuttled to the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa which has provided accommodation for the visitors.

Hits Radio Station in New Zealand ran a competition asking Kiwi couples to share their happy news.

Fiji was chosen as the destination since it has been labelled as the happiest destination in the world.
