The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has aired concerns about its ongoing projects in the Northern Division.

During a meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Pio Tikoduadua, yesterday FRA’s chief executive officer Neil Cook said: “Many landowners have given a hard time when it comes to the usage of their resources for road developments.”

Minister Tikoduadua is currently touring the Northern Division.

“Road works have to stop because some landowners do not allow resources like aggregates to be extracted from their own land,” Mr Cook said.

Aggregates are materials used in the construction of roads.

He said the aggregates are meant to be used for the road developments for their village.

In reply, Minister Tikoduadua said the landowners and chiefs would need to be informed on the benefits of these road projects.

He also believes that chiefs in the Northern Division would need to be more compliant when it comes to the usage of their natural resources for development purposes.

Naleba Soon To Get Water

Residents of Naleba Settlement, Vanua Levu, will soon receive clean water.

The Water Authority of Fiji’s regional manager, Romuluse Mataitoga, said the Naleba Settlement was included in its rural water projects.

The Fiji Sun had earlier reported that residents in the area were facing water problems.

Mr Mataitoga said the project would be carried out this year.

Minister Tikoduadua said: “Water is one project that the ministry would be looking into seriously this year because it is a basic necessity.”

The rural water project will also cover areas like Tabia, Dama Village in Bua and other villages in the North. Govt heads and stakeholders met the Minister at the Commissioner Northern’s office in Labasa.
