People of  Udu will soon be able to travel by road to urban areas in the Northern Division.

This comes after the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Pio Tikoduadua, visited Wainika Village in the district of Udu with Government officials yesterday.

Mr Tikoduadua said plans have been made to construct a road to reach people in Udu.

“The main purpose is to meet the stakeholders and do a follow up from the ministry’s last visit,” he said.

The current plan is to cut a road from the Dogotuki Road across to Tawake Village in Udu by 2016.

Tawake Village headman Taniela Veitayaki believes the village would benefit from the planned road project.

Mr Veitayaki said more than 130 villagers would benefit directly from it. Same sentiments were shared by Wainika Village headman, Fugai Golea.

Mr Golea said villagers would travel a shorter distance to reach the urban centres like Labasa and Savusavu.
