What began as an idea discussed over the dinner table is now taking its form in Mokani Village, Tailevu.

Sailada Tours, which began operations last year was borne out the need to financially assist in village projects.

Tours director Pita Rodan, originally from Mokani said that their business was set up to help in various projects arranged in the village.

“We planned to start a business with my wife a few years back – mainly to connect volunteers from overseas and my village”.

Funds raised from the volunteers visit will help finish the construction of new footpaths and a new sewerage system in the village, he said.

Today villagers welcomed more than 30 volunteers from Australia who were part of the project.

“This is the second time we’ve arranged visits like this, last year we organised volunteers to visit the Ratu Ravuama Vunivalu Kindergarten School and help them with their project”.

Village spokesman JekeMucunaqio said their group is so thankful to Mr Rodan and the volunteers for their assistance.

“We believe in working with our community and teamwork is always the best way to go.”Mr Rodan said.
