Sick Bay For Naiyala School
New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner Amanda Vercoe officially opens the new sick bay building at Naiyala High School.

Naiyala High School has a new sick bay building.

This is all thanks to the New Zealand High Commission’s Head of Mission Fund, which aided its construction.

New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner Amanda Vercoe, as chief guest, commissioned the building at the Tailevu school recently.

“I am pleased that we have been able to provide financial assistance of approximately FJ$17,000 from the Commission’s Head of Mission Fund to assist in the construction of the new building,” Ms Vercoe said.

“The school will now have access to a proper sick bay area where students’ health care will be ensured while staff will also benefit from new the ablution block.

“The school sick bay would be very useful for students given that this is a boarding school where children are away from the constant care of their parents. The new facility ensures immediate attention to illness or injury is available to students at all times.”

She said the sick bay would also assist the school community in terms of first aid medical treatment.

“I would like to recognise the contributions of the school committee and village members for your ongoing efforts to complete this construction project. You have all played an important role in making this a successful project,” Ms Vercoe said.

Under the Head of Mission Fund, it supports development projects in communities Fiji wide. One of its key priorities has always been investment in education.

Principal Tomasi Takala said: “I would like to thank the New Zealand embassy for their generous gesture and with the support of the Fijian Government through the ministry of education.”
