New Denarau Bridge Artist’s Impressions

Artist’s impressions for the new $7.5 million Denarau Bridge has been revealed.
It provides better look at the infrastructure which will be linking the mainland to the tourism island of Denarau.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed the materials for the bailey bridge have arrived and the contractor, Pacific Marine and Civil Solutions, has started work.
The contractors have started clearing of land to make room for the temporary bridge that will provide relief to motorists.
Whilst construction of the main Denarau Bridge is conducted, all motorists travelling in and out of Denarau will use the temporary bailey bridge.
The Fiji Roads Authority has received the approval from the Department of Environment and therefore the construction poses no threat to the environment.
The authority has also confirmed the landowners have given their blessings in a ceremony that was held the past month.
The background
Initially, Denarau Corporation Limited wanted a loan from Government to build a new bridge to allow access to Denarau Island.
This meant that traffic wanting to access the island through the bridge would then need to pay a fee.
But the Fijian Government said it would be hefty cost especially for workers on the tourist island so they took over the works.
The construction of the main bridge is estimated to take about a year.
