Rosy Hearts Expands Into Damodar City

Rosy Hearts, a name well-associated with the baking industry, has now opened its fifth outlet – this time in Damodar City in Raiwai.
Situated in the space right next to Damodar Events Cinema entrance, Rosy Hearts is open from 8am till 9pm daily.
Director, Mahendran Nair, said they decided with this location as they didn’t have a representation on this side
“What we are trying to do is be in places people go to. So by opening here – we have given people more chance to people,” he said.
The company has invested close to $40,000 in this new outlet.
The Rosy Hearts Damodar City outlet offers a range of cakes as well as orders can be placed for cakes needed for any occasion.
Mr Nair said they however do all the baking at their Centrepoint branch in Laucala Beach which is their centralised baking point before distribution.
Their success
Rosy Hearts was started off as a hobby of founder, Mr Nair’s wife, Roshni Nair, in 1999.
Since then, it has expanded and now has five outlets.
In addition to the one in Centrepoint, another branch was opened in Nausori in 2005, followed by Mid City outlet in 2007 and TappooCity outlet in 2013.
But to start up a business is one thing – but to expand and make it into a successful and profitable business is another.
Mr Nair said their success has been sound financial strategy.
They have combined his financial background and Mrs Nair’s baking skills which has led to the company’s success.
“The good thing was I was a finance person having worked in the bank for over 23 years and my wife has a background of baking,” he said.
“When we opened the business, she was managing it alone and I was working in the bank.
“When we saw all the possibilities we had, I resigned from bank – took a risk and I never looked back.”
Now Mr Nair’s son, who has done hospitality management and cake decoration etc, is being groomed to manage the business.
Plans ahead
But plans do not stop with Damodar City. Mr Nair said they are looking at opening up a branch in Labasa by next year which will be followed by another one in Sigatoka the same year.
He said he does not wish to expand into Nadi and Lautoka as his brother already has a cake shop there.
To date, Rosy Hearts has invested around $300,000.
