Hindus across the country celebrated Hanuman Jayanti yesterday.

In Suva, many Hindus crowded the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Toorak to serve Lord Hanuman during this auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

Hindus celebrate this season because Lord Hanuman was born on the full moon day on the Hindu calendar in April.

Laxmi Narayan Temple, Pundit (priest) Shastri Jainyendra said this year was very positive for every Hindu across the country.

“It’s an auspicious thing to have Hanuman Jayanti during lunar eclipse because Lord Hanuman was born,” he said.

He advised the Hindus that worshiping Hanuman during Lunar Eclipse was a good thing as some Hindus take this as a bad omen.

On Hanuman Jayanti, people observe fasting, meditate on him and his Lord Rama, practise charity, read the Hanuman Chalisa. On this day, they fast from morning until night and spend the day in repeating his glories and adventures and are blessed.

He was born to (Wind-God) Kesari and Anjani. He was an ideal karma yogi for his fearless, selfless service, humility and devotion for Lord Ram.

Lord Hanuman is the only deity that cannot be troubled by negative energies. Hanuman Jayanti is an important festival of Hindus. Hanuman is the symbol of strength and energy. He had many other names such as Maruti, Pavanputra, Bajrangbali and Mahavira.
