Close to 60 Fiji Corrections Service officers got together to do some cleaning up at Pearce Home in Butt Street, Suva, yesterday.

FCS spokesperson Kuini Waqasavou said the initiative was part of their civic pride programmes where they chose areas to clean up.

“There is of course a great need to lend a helping hand to homes such as Pearce Home where elderly people live,” Mrs Waqasavou said.

“We also clean up along the Suva Foreshore from time to time and we feel that if we can clean up in public places, people will be able to realise the importance of keeping our environment clean.”

She said they had also cleaned up at the Senior Citizens Home in Samabula and the Dilkusha Home in Nausori.

Home’s matron Ruci Kava said they were grateful to the efforts shown by the officers.

“We were not really expecting them but we are happy that they had time to come out and assist us because what they have done for free would have cost us so much more,” Matron Ruci said.
