The Vodafone Fiji 7s team lost to South Africa in a scintillating cup semi-final at the Prince Chichibu Stadium in Tokyo.

South Africa was on the attack from the start but failed to make it across the try-line.

Both sides kept the pressure up and went to the break at 0 – 0.

Fiji coach Ben Ryan reminded the boys to keep their heads up and apply pressure on the South Africans.

Two minutes into the second half, Osea Kolinisau took a quick tap from a penalty which saw Jasa Veremalua running in for a try. The try was unconverted.

South Africa replied with a try from Kwagga Smith. The conversion had South Africa leading up to the final whistle 7 -5.

A break from Jerry Tuwai in the 6th minute ended short of the try-line by desperate South African tackle.

Fiji will now face Canada for the 3rd/4th spot.
