Public Holidays

Are registered companies aware that if they ask their employees not to work on public holidays, employees still need to be paid.

Those not aware could get a visit soon from the employment ministry.

Checks needed?

Fiji National Provident Fund should do unannounced checks on smaller companies.

We know of some are not making the required contribution for all staff.

We also hear that some companies are demanding new employees allow 10 per cent deduction.

Word on the street is that something is not right here.

Question of equality

It could be straight out from Animal Farm.

Some are more equal than others.

Take a union that only has less than 800 registered members gets same votes as those unions with 3000 plus.

Where’s the fairness?
