A woman is dead in Suva and a couple are admitted in Lautoka Hospital with burns in separate family rows yesterday.

Losana McGowan, 36, died after an argument with her partner at their flat in Toorak (Full story on page 3).

In Lautoka,  a 26-year-old woman was in critical condition at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit last night after  her husband allegedly poured an inflammable liquid on her and set her on fire.

The husband who also received burns in the process was admitted in the recovery ward.

The dramatic scene in a shop on Vitogo Parade was captured on camera by some bystanders. Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident. She said there was a child with the woman who luckily escaped injury.

“It is confirmed the woman has been admitted in the Lautoka Hospital while the suspect is also in hospital,” she said.

The man was under Police custody.

Police could not say what caused the row.

Eyewitness Arieta Tuitata, 32, said: “We were doing our shopping and suddenly we heard a lady shouted in pain,” said Ms Tuitata.

“We were terrified of what we personally saw. It was really scary. Her face was like white and her husband also got burned. The husband was taken to the hospital first then the lady.”

Police are investigating.
