After their last build-up match against Suva for the Fiji Airways Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League, Ba still have a lot of work to do.

Despite the 3-2 loss to Suva at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori on Sunday, Ba coach Shalen Lal regards the loss as a positive for the team.

“This build up match has come at the right time because it pointed out the fact that we still need to do a lot of work,” Lal said.

“Even though we lost, I think of that as a positive because we need to find out which areas in our game that we need to improve on.

“We lacked concentration when the three goals were scored against us and that means we need to tighten up on our defence.

“There was miscommunication between the players and they had reacted slower when it came to chasing down the ball or defending.

“Now that we know what we need to improve on, we will be working on that throughout the week to make sure we do not repeat these mistakes during the Champions League because we are not just representing Ba but Fiji as a whole.”

With the inclusion of their New Zealand based James Hoyt and Keegan Linderboom along with Australian based Alvin Singh and Malakai Tiwa, Lal was happy with overall performance.

“The boys have showed that they are fit to play a 90- minute football and our new players who have been with us for over two weeks have fitted in quite well with the team,” he said.

“Now, we just need to go back to the drawing board and prepare accordingly and play our best come game day.”

Ba play their first game against New Caledonia club Gaitcha FC on Saturday at 7pm at Govind Park, Ba.
