Punjas Group of Companies yesterday boosted Lautoka Football Association with a sponsorship of $35, 000 to kick off the 2015 Local League competition.

Punjas Group of Companies Director Rajesh Punja said the gesture is another initiative of Punjas to promote active, healthy lifestyles through sport.

“We are happy to partner with Shop N Save supermarket to support football in Lautoka,” said Punja.

“The sponsorship is valued at $35,000 a year and we hope this will boost participation, interest in the sport and lift the morale of players and officials and supporters.”

He said football sponsorship is nothing new for the Punjas Group since they supported the sport during the 2003 Pacific Games and the Battle of the Giants tournament from 2003 -2005.

“With the right support, training and guidance, our footballers will have the ability and opportunity to participate at international level like Roy Krishna of Labasa,” he said.

Punja said the Group was celebrating 80 years of service this year and throughout 2015 they were marking this milestone by giving back in different ways to the community.

LFA vice president and league chairman Rajnesh Naicker thanked Punjas for coming on board this season.

“It is history in the local club level that such a big sponsorship has been secured,” said Naicker.

“Given such a huge amount LFA plans to stage this year’s local league competition in a bigger and better way.”

He said there would be huge remuneration for the winners of this year’s competition, something which has never paid to any club locally.

“Not only giving incentives to individual players for their talents such as player of the year, golden boot award together with administrators of the club,” Naicker said.

He said a meeting would be called to decide the breakdown of the prizemoney.

The competition is scheduled for this Sunday and matches will be played at the Churchill Park grounds two and three and Nadovu Park.
